Woooooooaaaah, We're Halfway The-ere!

Wo-oah! Liam on a cha-air!

Someone please tell me that you got what I did there.

I can't believe that Liam is 6 months old already!!! That just sounds so... Old. I can't deny it though with the crazy amount of development that he's gone through this past month. I feel like every other month of his life thus far I can pinpoint a couple of developments over an entire month, but he literally hit five months and just shot off. The day after he turned 5 months he started rolling over a ton.

Still only back to front until a day or two ago. He's still only rolled front to back a handful of times though. Basically what's been happening is that he'll roll onto his belly and then get SUPER mad that he's on his stomach instead of his back, but instead of trying to roll the other way, he just fusses a ton. Sometimes he stress thumb-sucks when he's on his tummy and it's SO CUTE.

He also started scooching his bum into the air though, which is how he eventually ended up rolling front to back. He can really travel when he's on his tummy though! You look down and all of a sudden he's somewhere else completely.

He started in the middle of the blanket, on his back.
Next thing I knew he was crunching the wipes and
then veered off to where he is seen here.

He also still falls asleep during tummy time sometimes.

And now he usually sleeps on his side.

In the next day or two, he started making a pbbt noise with his lips. One day I was wearing him in Walmart and he just chilled there and pbbt as I walked around the store. It was pretty funny!

He's not doing it in this picture, but imagine him spitting
through his lips with that face. That's the noise.

He also found his feet in those first few days of being a 5 month old.

And now he likes to chomp on them, even if he has socks on or is still in his sleep sack.

He's doing really well at sitting up with support! He's obviously done the Bumbo, but he's also started sitting in the high chair and we even tried a shopping cart this week! He did pretty well in the cart for a few minutes because he was bracing himself with his arms, but he eventually started veering.

This is one of my favorite pictures

He fell asleep in the highchair using a toy as a pillow one night.

We've also tried this standing up toy thing. First he just leaned forward a ton before figuring out how to keep himself upright. The problem is that he get REALLY mad that he can't get the ring off of the peg. It's not supposed to come off. He had a full on tantrum the first time and when I put him in it again he almost immediately started trying to get the ring again and started getting agitated. So we might not be able to use this much...

You can see just a glimmer of distress here

My personal favorite development is that he says mama. Usually more like mmmmmmmmmmaaaaam, but also mamamamamama. It makes me SO happy to hear him say it! ...Even if it's the only thing that he CAN say right now. The problem is that because it's the only thing that he can say, it's also what he says when he's angry or sad. Hearing a pitiful little "mamamama" is freaking heartbreaking.

We use this little monkey bouncer thing all the time when we need to do things (go to the bathroom/shower, cook, clean, etc.) and he now scoots himself down to the bottom so that he can lift his legs more easily.

He's VERY grabby these days. When he's eating he likes to grab at my shirt and sometimes my face. It's very disconcerting when he wakes up while laying next to me and all of a sudden he's swiping at my face and grabbing my nose or lips.

He also grabs at my hair (which is now short, so if it's not in a ponytail, I can't move it out of reach), glasses, and anything nearby (including the doctor's stethoscope that was around her neck at his last appointment). He's gotten really into grabbing things and covering his face with them.

If it's not on his face, it's in his mouth.

His favorite thing to chomp right now is this Shrek-head-looking Mombella mushroom teether. I'd been struggling to find things for him to chomp because he still hasn't quite figured out the teething keys or the plastic teething toys that Mom got for him, but all of a sudden I kept seeing this mushroom thing pop up in my mommy Facebook groups. I figured "Why not?", and he loves it!

He likes to try to suck his thumb or stick my shirt in his mouth while he's eating... Which doesn't really work. He also gets super distracted while he's eating if we're anywhere but home. I mean, he also gets distracted at home quite a bit, but it's especially bad if we're elsewhere.

He's started sucking his lower lip sometimes and even fell asleep with it in his mouth one day.

With all of the developments this month, he's been pretty cranky a lot of the time. Between getting mad about being on his tummy, accidentally pushing toys out of reach, and teething, he's become a bit of a fuss monster. You would never know it seeing him anywhere but home though! When we're out and about he's crazy chill. Not smiling and laughing, but just... chill. It's like we get the extremes at home- super giggly, active, happy, frustrated, angry, sad -but then there's not much of anything when we're in public. It's nice in a way, but also kind of eerie sometimes.

In other news, he's still super tall! We finally got him in with a new doctor here in PA and he's still pretty much average for weight at 17.2 lbs, but he's in the 98th percentile for height at 28 in. Crazy! Because of that, he's still growing out of clothes lengthwise before he does widthwise.

He has chunked out a little bit though! He looks chubby in these pictures (and also looks like he has a unibrow in that second picture. It's just his forehead though) because of the way that he's sitting:

I wanted to share some comparison pics from birth/first month of life until now:

He looks SO different!

Look at all that leftover sleepsack. CRAZY.

This one kills me. He was so small! And he wasn't even a teeny
newborn, so I can't imagine having a 5/6 lb baby, let alone a preemie.

Some last things about Liam this past month:

-He likes to throw his legs to the side in the middle of diaper changes so he can flash his little bum around
-He loves to laugh and when he's in the right mood, he'll laugh at just about anything! Grandpa is still the best at getting him to laugh, but I got him laughing SO hard a couple of days ago. He just had the giggles and it was so cute!
-His favorite position while being held is upright with his cheek smooshed against the cheek of whoever is holding him
-He grunts. A lot. All the time. Sometimes when he's angry, sometimes when he's trying to poop, sometimes when he's being silly. So. Much. Grunting.
-He's also very chatty. Whether it's mamamama, just noises, cooing, grunting, or whatever else, sometimes he just sits there and holds a little conversation with himself
-He had to be disciplined for the first time and it was the literal worst. He started biting down while he was eating and then turning his head and it hurt SO MUCH. So I gave him a gentle flick on the cheek every time he did it and he was so betrayed. He got so sad and it made me feel absolutely awful. But he has to know that it's not okay to bite me before he gets teeth. Luckily he didn't do it again after that feeding. It was just so sad!
-He's a snacker. He eats just long enough to not be starving and then starts moving around, sucking his thumb, babbling, etc. It drives me crazy sometimes because he lets go and I just keep spurting milk out, drenching us both at times. Some days he has decent feedings all day, but the norm lately is snacking.

Anyway, that's all folks!

Happy 6 months Liam!!!

Jonathan's face in the background cracks me up.
Clearly we were trying to get Liam to smile

Meeting his great grandmother's piano

The way he's sitting is so funny to me!
He was veering around like he was riding a bull
