Okay, I finally finished the 7 month post, so now on to 8 months and then hopefully I'll get the 9 month post together before Liam hits 9 months in two days. Fingers crossed!
This one will mostly be a photo dump because, unfortunately, I don't really remember what developments happened last month vs. this month. But I'll add in what I can think of!
First off, I shared a couple of pictures in the last post of Liam wrapped up in a blanket (he wrapped himself). Well for a while there, he would grab whatever he could and wrap himself up in it and it was funny to see what he grabbed. Here we've got blankets, towels, Daddy's military sweatshirt, and a pair of his own pants:
I introduced him to his own Pooh bear. For those of you who don't know, I have a Pooh bear that I've had since I was a baby/toddler. So I commissioned a Pooh bear from an awesome resident of the assisted living facility that I worked at in Idaho so that Liam could have one of his own. The small one is his and the big one is mine:
Oh! That reminds me! He started being able to sit up a little bit that month! Here he is mostly only staying up because he's using the pumpkin to support himself, but this is the month that he started figuring it out.
This is also the month that the scrunch face smiles began. He completely gets it from me. It makes me laugh to see the first few pictures that I got of it though because he looks evil most of the time:
And now the general photo dump:

Oh yeah! Scooting started that month! He could pretty much only scoot backwards though

Sometimes he just wants the spoon. Which makes things MUCH messier

His regular sleeping position that month was up against the wall

My dad started taking him up to their room to lay down and listen to classical music for naps and it's adorable

So glad that he has proper hair again!

Okay, you can't see it very well, but if you look hard enough you can see that he still has some SUPER long baby hairs that never fell out

Fritz started getting super cozy with Liam and I during feedings. He climbs up my legs and on top of Liam to be pet, but then usually ends up settling at my feet on the foot rest.
I've gone back and forth about sharing about this, but I feel like I should in case it can help someone else. I was driving one day and checked the rearview mirror to see how Liam was doing and was shocked to see that his car seat had canted by about 45 degrees. As soon as I could I pulled over and righted the car seat. Liam fast asleep and that terrified me. He usually would wake up pretty easily in the car, so the fact that tilting that much didn't wake him made me really worried. I kind of poked at him until he stirred, but he stayed asleep even then. I went ahead and drove to my destination, but once we got there I took him out and held him for a while. Poor dear didn't know why I woke him up and why I was so clingy all of a sudden. He was completely fine, just very deeply asleep I guess.
I was SO mad at first, thinking that there was something wrong with the car seat. I went home and looked up the installation instructions to make sure that it was installed correctly and it seemed to be. I even unbuckled it and reinstalled it, very carefully following the instructions, and the seat could still move a ton.
What I eventually learned though after poring over the manual some more was that this whole time, the car seat hadn't been installed quite properly. I poured over the car seat manual to try to figure it out and after trying a few different things, I eventually learned that I was supposed to have been using one of those little metal seat belt clip thingys.
I'm not going to lie, I've cried over this multiple times now. No matter what I do (and I've gone over the instructions over and over again), I can't get the car seat secured properly with that metal clip. The car seat still ends up being able to be moved more than I'd like. The problem is that either it's still a little bit too loose, or else it ends up being too tight after I put the clip on and so I can't re-buckle the seatbelt. I asked about it in one of my Facebook mom groups and was slightly reassured to hear that many people had had to get someone from the fire department or WIC or something put the metal clip on for them. So I need to find someone that can help me learn how to install it properly. In the meantime, I'm using it as best as I can and Liam has been completely fine. The clip does help make it less loose, but I'm pretty sure that it's still not as tight as it should be.
I share this though because I'm pretty sure they check at the hospital to make sure that the car seat is installed properly before you go home with your baby. And we were cleared. And it wasn't installed properly for the type of seatbelts in our car. So just double check. Double check the manual and make sure that you have your car seat installed the way that it needs to be. I had no idea that there were so many variations to installation based on the type of seatbelt.

Okay, after that awfulness, I want to finish off this post with some of my favorite pictures. One day we went to do family prayer and Philip got Liam kneeling in front of him (quite the task) and the pictures turned out cuter than I could have ever planned:
That's all folks! Happy Late 8 months bud!
